Learning and performance challenges in the wine industry
The most common training and performance review challenges in Chilean vineyards, wineries and bottling plants, with a permanent workforce that grows during pruning and harvest and an export-oriented business, with the applicable rule where there is one and how Clikma addresses them. "How Clikma addresses it" describes the platform, not what each client uses.
Mass onboarding for the season
During pruning and harvest, seasonal crews arrive, many through contractors, and in a few days they need to learn the task, safety and the estate's rules.
Regulation (Chile): Labor Code, articles 93 to 95: seasonal contracts and the employer's duties toward these workers. The mandatory DS 44 prevention course also applies to every new hire.
How Clikma addresses itOnboarding is assigned automatically when the season's payroll is loaded. People without a corporate email sign in with their national ID (RUT) or a QR code, each contractor manages its own crew, which is archived when the contract ends, and field talks record attendance by QR code with the check-in location.
Safe handling of crop protection products
Anyone applying pesticides must be trained, and everyone who works near them must know how to use them, recognize symptoms of exposure and respect re-entry times for treated blocks.
Regulation (Chile): Decree 158 of 2014 of the Ministry of Health (in force since 2016): only trained people may apply pesticides on the ground. Labor Code, article 95, with the duty added by Law 20,308: inform seasonal workers about the use of these products and the symptoms of exposure.
How Clikma addresses itA course covering the regulation's topics, with an assessment and a certificate with a set validity period and an alert before it expires. The practice is in person, with an instructor and QR code attendance, and safety data sheets are delivered with a signed read receipt.
Certified sustainability and export markets
Chilean wine is sold mostly abroad: from January to November 2025, exports totaled USD 1.408 billion FOB, according to ODEPA's December 2025 bulletin. Certifications and buyers ask for evidence of how people are managed in vineyards, wineries and offices.
Regulation (Chile): Sustainability Code of the Chilean Wine Industry (Wines of Chile): a voluntary standard with vineyard, winery and plant, and social areas.
How Clikma addresses itAn annual training plan with the hours, cost and participants of each activity, reports by area that can be configured and downloaded, and each person's certificates ready for an audit.
Common criteria to review mixed workforces
Vineyard, winery and plant combine permanent staff with seasonal workers and contractors. Without role-based criteria, each manager reviews in their own way, and areas cannot be compared.
Regulation (Chile): There is no legal obligation to review performance. ChileValora has wine subsector profiles, such as Winemaking Operator and Wine Aging Cellar Operator, that serve as a competency reference.
How Clikma addresses itJob profiles with cross-cutting, functional and technical competencies, loaded from Excel. In each performance cycle, the person is reviewed on their profile's competencies and on goals with a KPI and a weight.
Reviews without a conversation or development plan
Vineyard, winery and plant managers review large teams in the middle of operations. When the process is cumbersome, the review becomes paperwork, without feedback or concrete development actions; a University of Talca study of Chilean companies found frequent problems in how these reviews are designed.
How Clikma addresses itManagers review from My Team in a stage-based flow: goal setting, self-review, review and feedback. The form records strengths, areas for improvement and development actions, and managers can enroll their team in courses to close those gaps.
Mandatory prevention course, with evidence
Every employer, regardless of industry or contract type, must provide an occupational risk prevention course of at least 8 hours and, from November 1, 2026, prove it with verifiable and traceable records.
Regulation (Chile): Law 16,744 and Decree (DS) 44 of 2023, article 16. Technical Guide of the Undersecretariat of Social Security (Exempt Resolution 1,117 of 2026).
How Clikma addresses itA single plan in person, by webinar or by e-learning. Each person's attendance, assessment, certificate, instructor, date and duration are recorded, and reports can be exported for an inspection.
What are the main training and performance challenges in the wine industry in Chile?
Onboarding seasonal crews for pruning and harvest in a few days; training on the safe handling of crop protection products; showing evidence of people management for sustainability certifications and export markets; reviewing mixed workforces of permanent, seasonal and contractor staff with common criteria; making sure reviews end in a conversation and a development plan; and proving the mandatory risk prevention course.

A Chilean winery that reviews its teams' performance
Viña Santa Rita is a Chilean winery. It has used Clikma to train its teams since 2022 and, since 2025, for its annual performance review cycle.
Its process has five stages: goal setting, self-review, final review, feedback and a survey on the feedback received. Reviews measure goals and competencies.
The whole performance cycle, on the same learning platform
With Clikma, each person sets their goals, reviews themselves on goals and competencies, receives their final review and their manager's feedback, and answers a survey about that conversation. Everything stays on the same platform where they train.
Santa Rita also loaded its 2020 to 2024 reviews, to see each person's track record in one place, and keeps training its teams with its own courses.
