Industry challenges

Learning challenges in engineering and construction

The most common training challenges for engineering and construction companies working at mining and industrial sites in Chile, with the rule that makes them mandatory and how Clikma addresses them. "How Clikma addresses it" describes the platform, not what each client uses.

  • Induction before entering each site

Each project and each client site requires its own induction and risk information before day one, and repeating the process at every site delays the crew's start.

Regulation (Chile): Decree (DS) 44 of 2023, article 15: inform about occupational risks before work begins. Decree 99 of 2014 of the Ministry of Mining: standardized basic induction at mine sites.

    How Clikma addresses it

A project onboarding brings together the induction, courses and documents to sign for each site, with a record of who signed. People sign in with their national ID (RUT) or a QR code, without a corporate email.

  • Mandatory prevention course, with evidence

With per-project contracts and crews renewed on every project, ensuring each worker's prevention course and proving it in an inspection is an ongoing task.

Regulation (Chile): Decree (DS) 44 of 2023, article 16: a course of at least 8 hours. Technical Guide (Exempt Resolution 1,117 of 2026), in force from November 1, 2026, which covers per-project workers.

    How Clikma addresses it

In person, by webinar and by e-learning in one plan, with each person's attendance, assessment, certificate and instructor on record, and reports that can be exported for an inspection.

  • Contractors and subcontractors to one standard

The principal company must make sure its contractors comply with safety rules, and they must report to it on request: with several companies on the same site, that information ends up scattered across spreadsheets.

Regulation (Chile): Law 16,744, article 66 bis. Decree 76 of 2006: regulation for contractors and subcontractors.

    How Clikma addresses it

In-house and contractor staff on a single platform: each contractor manages its own staff, the role-based requirements matrix shows who is qualified, and staff are archived when their contract ends.

  • Trade certifications and licenses that expire

Lifting equipment operators, riggers and scaffolders need valid credentials; if one expires mid-project, the person is out until it is renewed.

Regulation (Chile): ChileValora occupational skills certification, with mining construction profiles agreed with the Mining Skills Council (2026).

    How Clikma addresses it

Certifications go into each person's folder with issuer, dates and validity, with alerts before they expire, bulk renewals and a qualification record that workers can check themselves.

  • Remote sites, shifts and changing crews

With 7-on/7-off or 4-on/4-off rotations at remote sites there are few windows for training, and large-scale mining projects about 37 thousand new workers by 2034, according to the Chilean Large-Scale Mining Workforce Study 2025–2034 (CCM–Eleva, December 2025).

Regulation (Chile): Labor Code, article 38: exceptional working-time systems authorized by the Labor Directorate.

    How Clikma addresses it

Training is assigned by role when the payroll is loaded, e-learning resumes where the person left off, and sessions are delivered at the site itself with QR code attendance and the check-in location. Past training history is loaded to keep it all in one place.

  • Preventing harassment and violence

Employers must have a protocol, make it known and provide training. According to the Mujer y Trabajo 2025 study (ChileMujeres–Cadem), cited by the Labor Directorate, 41% of respondents had not received that training.

Regulation (Chile): Law 21,643 (Karin Law), in force since August 1, 2024.

    How Clikma addresses it

Protocol and internal rules with a signed read receipt, communications with a report of who read them, and courses with assessments.

What are the main training challenges in engineering and construction in Chile?

Inducting workers and informing them of risks before they enter each site; ensuring and proving the mandatory prevention course with crews that change with every project; keeping contractors and subcontractors to the same standard; renewing trade certifications and licenses on time; training at remote sites and on rotating shifts; and preventing harassment and violence as the Karin Law requires.

What it solved with Clikma

Platform and external training, in a single record

With Clikma, EMIN publishes its own e-learning —with tests and surveys— and records its teams' external training on the same platform, to see in one place what each person has completed.

It also uses Clikma onboarding, which organizes each new hire's arrival in stages, with courses, documents to sign, a checklist and follow-up by their manager. Its employees sign in with their corporate Microsoft 365 account.

What it uses today, according to the data
